Francesco was born in Gioia del Colle (Bari) in 1972.

In November 1998 he earned his degree (with honors) in Building Engineering (5 years) at the Politecnico di Bari, discussing a thesis on the "Architectural and acoustical design of a concert-hall in Bari". In December 2001 he took his PhD in Applied Physics (Fisica Tecnica, XIV ciclo) at the University of Ancona discussing a thesis on the "Acoustics characteristics of Apulian Romanesque churches". In November 2002 he was appointes as Assistant professor in "Environmental Applied Physics" at the 1st Faculty of Engineering of the Politecnico di Bari. Since 27 April 2012 he is Associate Professor in "Environmental Applied Physics" at the Politecnico di Bari.

His main research interests include church and room acoustics, acoustic measurements, virtual acoustics, psychoacoustics, noise effects in working activities, thermo-hygrometric comfort and indoor-environment quality. He participated to several National Interest Research Program (PRIN) and other research contracts sponsored by INAIL, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Puglia and Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.

He is author of more than 80 scientific papers published on national and international journals, congress presentations (some of them invited), and in 2006 he published with Prof. Ettore Cirillo the book "Worship, acoustics, and architecture", summarizing five years of researches on church acoustics.

In 2001 he received the "Best Paper Award" for the best paper authored by a young researcher in the HVAC field at Clima 2000, Naples (15-18 september). In 2007 he was invited as keynote lecturer at the International Symposium on Room Acoustics (satellite symposium of the 19th ICA) in Seville. In 2008 a whole page of the "Osservatore Romano" and special reports on "Wired"(USA) and on "Panorama" were dedicated to his work on church acoustics. In 2012 several press releases were dedicated to the project "Suoni di Pietra". [You can have a look at the pressroom here]
